The sun sinks

low behind the sage-covered hill

dogs race, fetching sticks

through the gently waves

along the empty beach.

Summer nears its end.

Shivering kids

wrap up in wet towels

one more time

splashing from hot afternoon

through dusky cool evening

before school bells ring.
